Chestnut Festival
With historical re-enactments and the culinary tradition of Campiglia d’Orcia.
In Campiglia d’Orcia, the Festa del Marrone has been a tradition since 1978. During the festival, in this small town you can sample local chestnut-based goods and dishes and watch the re-enactment of ancient customs and traditions. In fact, each of the town’s three districts – Agitati, Dentro and Borgassero, organise historical and religious re-enactments in the streets of the town centre. Shows, music and costumed locals take visitors back in time. The jury and public vote the best procession. Of no less interest is the gastronomical aspect: each district sets up an eatery serving typical products, from ravioli to game, ending naturally with chestnut castagnaccio cake.
Winding through the streets of the town, costumed figures tell of ancient legends and sing folklore songs.
